EU updates regulations on imported food control measures
On June 13, 2022, the EU officially announced the issuance of Regulation (EU) 2022/913 on May 30, 2022, on adjusting regulations on food control measures exported through the EU and it's applied from July 3, 2022.
According to this regulation, the EU has revised the quality requirements and inspection frequency for food originating from Vietnam. As follows:
- The product group of noodles, vermicelli, and noodle soup (without seasoning package) are removed from the list of requirements for additional Health Certificate and testing frequency for Ethylene Oxide.
- The EU spiced instant noodles group continues to maintain the requirement for additional food safety certificates and the inspection frequency is 20%. Thus, We need to carefully check Ethylene Oxide for seasoning packages, especially dried vegetables.
- For dragon fruit, the EU continues to maintain the requirement for a certificate of food safety and a 20% inspection frequency for the pesticide group, especially paying attention to the active ingredient group Dithiocarbamate.
- The group of coriander, parsley, mint, basil, okra, chili still maintained the frequency of inspection at 50%

Overview of the results of pesticide residue testing in the first 6 months of the year at Eurofins Sac Ky Hai Dang
Active substances commonly detected in some samples:
- Pepper, spices: Metalaxyl, chlorpyrifos, cypermethrin, permethrin, Imidacloprid, Diphenylamine, diniconazole, Tetraconazole, Cyazofamide, Propyzamide, Thiobencarb.
- Rice: Trycyclazole, Azoxystrobin, Tebuconazole, Difenoconazole, Isoprothiolane,
Vegetables: Dithiocarbamate, chlorpyrifos, carbendazim, metalaxyl, Difenoconazole; Azoxystrobin; Imidacloprid - Spiced packaged foods: ethylene oxide, chlorpyrifos.
Ethylene Oxide contamination in seasoned instant noodles, vermicelli and pho products has also been significantly improved. However, this item is still on the EU's strict control list and it is mandatory for each container to have a certificate of food safety and hygiene issued by the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
However, with this rate, our export risk is still high. In the first 6 months of 2022, Vietnam received 38 warnings from the EU, of which more than 60% fell into the warning of violations of pesticide residues exceeding the prescribed levels, most of which fell in the group of vegetables and fruits.

Updated FDA guidance on seafood product hazard control
In its June 2022 edition, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) updated Chapter 9, “Environmental Chemical Contaminants Including Pesticides” in its Fish and Fishery Products Hazards and Controls.
The revisions to the guidance reflect FDA regulations for the safe and sanitary processing and import of fish and seafood products using Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) measures. ).
This guide is intended to assist fish and seafood product processors in the development of HACCP plans. This guide is also intended to serve as a tool to be used by regulators in the evaluation of HACCP plans for fish and aquatic products.
