Official announcement of national standards for disposable wet wipes
Conference common national standards TCVN 11528: 2016, the disposable wet towels were Directorate of Standards, Metrology and Quality held on 23-9, in Hanoi. This national standard is also a technical basis in protecting the interests of consumers, especially children, for wet wipes.
At the conference, Mrs. Thai Quynh Hoa, Head of Consumer Product Standards Department, Vietnam Institute of Standards and Quality (Directorate of Standards, Metrology and Quality) made a statement this national standard will be the scientific orientation. reliable study for manufacturers and importers of wet wipes to apply, thereby providing quality products; Standards also help consumers have a basis to choose safe products.
It should be emphasized that this is the first time that Vietnam has a national standard for this product. For many years, because there is no national standard for this item, manufacturers will self-publish the base standard and take responsibility for the quality of their products.
According to Dr. Le Thi Huong Hoa (National Institute of Drug Testing): disposable wet wipes are products that directly affect the health of users, especially children. Through testing some samples of disposable wet wipes, this unit found that wet wipes contain chemicals that are over the limit, which can easily cause irritation and itching in the exposed skin.
Experts recommend that consumers should choose standard products to avoid the risk of using products containing irritants, especially when used on children's skin and in contact with mucous membranes. Without standard quality control, alcohol-based wet wipes can also irritate, in which there is concern that if the wipes are contaminated with methanol, it is very dangerous because it can cause blindness if used to wipe the eyes.
Following Mr. Le Van Hau, Experimental Center (Institute of Textile and Apparel): products that meet TCVN 11528:2016 standards will not be allowed to use optical brighteners because this substance is included in the product to create a sense of product might be whiter under daylight. But this is an irritant to the eyes and sensitive skin areas.
Besides, wet wipe products also need to be strictly controlled for formaldehyde content to be safe for users. This is an anti-bacterial preservative that can cause strong allergies through the skin, eye, and respiratory contact, but is still widely used in disposable wet wipes.
