Sesame allergen labeling required in the US market
The US has updated the allergen for sesame to be required to be declared on food product labels from January 1, 2023
The United States passed the Labeling and Consumer Protection Act in 2004, which stipulates that there are eight main types of allergies that need to be labeled: milk, eggs, fish, crustaceans, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat and soybeans.

On April 23, 2021, the Food Allergy Research, Education, and Safety Act (FASTER) was officially come into force, declaring sesame the ninth major food allergen in the United States. This update will be applicable from January 1, 2023. Labeling is mandatory from the time this law comes into force.
In addition, the FDA has identified more than 160 foods with the potential to cause allergic reactions in sensitive people. As a result, the FDA requires specific ingredient labeling to minimize risks.
