Vietnam directly supervises the disinfection of lychees exported to Japan
Japan authorizing Vietnam to supervise the disinfection treatment of lychees exported to the Japanese market could set a precedent for many other fruits.
Mr. Hoang Trung - Director of Plant Protection Department
Mr. Hoang Trung: In order to do this, Vietnam's plant quarantine experts must firmly grasp the Japanese regulations on how to step by step and step by step meet the requirements of their side.
After being processed, the lychee shipments exported to Japan must ensure the eradication of all plant quarantine objects that Japan is interested in. In addition, localities such as Hai Duong and Bac Giang are also very proactive, not only instructing farmers to fully meet the requirements in the process of planting, caring, and preventing pests from Japan, but also creating conditions for enterprises to complete lychee processing facilities.
Currently, Hai Duong province has 4 lychee processing facilities, Bac Giang has 2 facilities. Thorough inspection and evaluation, we found that all facilities met the technical requirements of the Japanese side.
In the coming time, the Department will send a phytosanitary expert to supervise on the spot, after the processing is complete, it will issue a certificate, seal it and transfer it to the airport for export to the Japanese market.
According to the plan, the Plant Quarantine Sub-department of Region 5 will be in charge of Bac Giang province, and the Plant Quarantine Sub-Department of Region 1 will be in charge of Hai Duong province. Sub-departments arrange plant quarantine officers to supervise and handle according to regulations and issue phytosanitary certificates promptly for lychees exported to Japan.
For other markets, staff will be arranged to work both holidays and overtime to carry out phytosanitary procedures quickly and most conveniently for export agricultural products, with special attention being paid to border gates with the high quantity of products lychee exports are large.
In your opinion, what advantages will Japan authorizing Vietnam to monitor for lychee fumigation treatment?
Mr. Hoang Trung: Being fully proactive in technical stages and proactive in scheduling without having to depend on experts will help the export of lychee to Japan ensure compliance with regulations and increase the quantity. This will greatly reduce the time, cost, and number of export shipments.
Currently, the market signal is very positive when businesses are eagerly registering plans to export lychee to Japan with a significant increase in quantity compared to 2020.
In my opinion, what is more important is that Japan's transfer of the entire lychee disinfection monitoring and treatment process to Vietnam has confirmed the quarantine capacity of Vietnamese plant quarantine officers, which is a premise for may create opportunities for some other fruits.
Thank you, Sir!
